This paper presents a modified cuckoo search algorithm (MCSA) which is improved version of cuckoo search algorithm (CSA) for solving the economic dispatch (ED) problem considering ramp rate limits, prohibited operating zones and transmission loss. The modification involves the addition of information exchange between the top eggs, or the best solutions. The effectiveness of the proposed approach has been tested on 6 generator system. The results show that performance of the proposed approach reveal the efficiently and robustness when compared results of other optimization algorithms reported in literature.

Keywords - Modified cuckoo search algorithm, economic dispatch, ramp rate limits, prohibited operating zones.

In the absence of valves, diaphragm pumps equipped with a moving diaphragm to generate the unsteady flow in the right direction are designed to deliver the maximum or the required volume flowrate while reducing/suppressing backflow. Operating and manufacturing uncertainties affect the performance of pumps, such asthe micropump this paper is dealing with, and should be taken into consideration during the designloop. This paper presents such a design-optimization by incorporating (a) the cut-cell method for the CFD analysis of the unsteady flow, (b) the non-intrusive polynomial chaos expansion method, supportedby aSmolyaksparse grid, to quantify uncertainties in the performance metrics, (c) a Pareto front seeking evolutionary algorithm with some add-ons to reduce the otherwise excessive CPU cost and (d) an intercalary gradient-based improvement of selected individuals, assisted by the continuous adjoint method.........

The current work highlighted the estimation on potential fishing grounds area of Albacore (ALB) (Thunnusalalunga) in the Eastern Indian Ocean. This data used in this study was based on the Research Institute for Tuna Fisheries (RITF) observer program in Benoa from 2005-2013. The aim of this study is to give the information to the longline fisheries stakeholders about the spatial distribution and the potential fishing grounds area (PFGA) of ALB in Eastern Indian Ocean. The methods used in this study are the combination of spatial distribution of CPUE and the percentage of mature ALB in Eastern Indian Ocean. The result show that the distribution and fishing grounds of ALB are influenced by the spatial distribution of oceanographic variables i.e. sea surface temperature (SST)...........

The objective of this study is to determine the properties of dolomites (Early Silurian-Middle Devonian) in terms of geochemistry of rare earth element, which belong to the Bozdağ Formation existing at the surroundings of Söğütözü-Ladik at the northwest of Konya City in Turkey. The Bozdağ Formation formed the basis in the study area, is made up Early Silurian-Middle Devonian reefal complex. The Bozdağ Formation dolomite samples are displayed rare earth elements depletion such as precursor limestones. The rare earth element content of the Bozdağ Formation dolomites no related to the carbonate phase, detrital alumina-silicate (eg. feldspar and clay minerals such as kaolin) and iron containing minerals (eg. pyrite and possibly ankerite or siderite) was checked by phase...........

AC motor-driven electric scooters are highly eco-efficient, high performance, more convenient, and airpollution free. They offer a certain powerful solution to global environmentaland energyproblems. This paper presents a newly-developed super-rapid charging electric motor-driven scooter (Electric Scooter) incorporating EDLC stack change-over power source. Described are practical design criteria of the EDLC stack-based electric scooter with a ZCS-DC/DC high frequency link converter and experimental result of running operation performance. Furthermore, a pulse power Ultracapacitor (EDLC) charger for home use is proposed from a practical point of view.

Insulin has been used as major treatment for patients with diabetes type 1. An increasing demand for insulin each year becomes a challenge to develop an alternative expression system for insulin precursor production. Pichia pastoris as methylotropic yeast is one of yeast expression systems that has been widely used and proven to successfully express a variety of heterologous proteins in high numbers. This research was carried out to express insulin precursor using α-factor signal peptide of S. cerevisiae for insulin precursor secretion process toward the extracellular space in Pichia pastoris. Concentration of methanol induction and expression media were optimized for efficient process of these proteins in Pichia pastoris...........

In developing theAlgorithm, power transformer star and delta windings configurations, current transformer and vector group's configurations parameters were put into consideration. The model performs compensation for current magnitude, phase-angle shift, current transformer mismatch errors and zerosequence current. Results show that, the resultant operating current 𝐼𝑜𝑝 flowing through the operating coil of the differential relay summed to zero during normal operation and during external faults, and discriminate internal faults from magnetizing inrush currents............

Paper Title :: Improved Template Matching Techniques for Unicode Character Recognition
Author Name :: Patrick Obilikwu || Karim Usman || GbengeAondoakula Raphael

Image text recognition is a process of getting text values out of an image. The extracted characters save space and enable editing on the characters. This is also called optical character recognition (OCR). Optical recognition is performed off-line after the writing or printing has been completed, as opposed to on-line recognition where the computer recognizes the characters as they are drawn. Template Matching is a system prototype useful to recognize the character or alphabet by comparing two images of the alphabet. This work focuses on providing high accuracy on offline recognition character using a template matching technique which does not adapt for some writing style. It has been implemented with Java programming language and opencv library. Template matching technique is modified to adapt many writing styles with an unending template creation opportunity and still maintaining all other properties of template matching............

The bays are the main points of completion of the wastewater and solid discharges drained by the sewage system of the city of Abidjan. Also, the contributions coming from the urban effluents pour there. It contributes to pollution. The present work aimed to know the water quality of the Adiopo-Doumé bay and the spatio-temporal variations of some physicochemical parameters of the water (Hydrogen potential: pH, Temperature: T ° C, Salinity: Sal, Dissolved Oxygen: OD, Total Dissolved Solids: TDS, Electrical Conductivity: CE, Transparency: Trans). The resolution of this problem involved the use of the ArcGis software and several statistical methods (PCA) applied to the field data for the study of the spatio-temporal evolution of the variables studied. Seven variables were measured at the eight sampling stations. All measurements were made at 0.5 and 2 m depth............

Bacterial spores (Bacillus and Clostridium) are common contaminants of food products andtheir germination and subsequent outgrowth may cause food spoilage or foodborne illness. High pressure thermal processing is an emerging technology with potential use in commercial food processing to obtain safe high quality food products with extended shelf life. The aim of this study was tocompare thermal treatment against high pressurethermal processing for inactivation of B. amyloliquefaciensDSM 7and C. sporogenes DSM 767 spores in a range of commercial prepared foods (vegetable soup, pea with ham and carrot, veal and sole). Spores (107 CFU/g) were inoculated into food productsand exposed to high temperatures (110 and 115 ºC) alone or in combination with high hydrostatic pressure (600 MPa) over a range of...........
