This paper presents a modified cuckoo search algorithm (MCSA) which is improved version of cuckoo search algorithm (CSA) for solving the economic dispatch (ED) problem considering ramp rate limits, prohibited operating zones and transmission loss. The modification involves the addition of information exchange between the top eggs, or the best solutions. The effectiveness of the proposed approach has been tested on 6 generator system. The results show that performance of the proposed approach reveal the efficiently and robustness when compared results of other optimization algorithms reported in literature.

In the absence of valves, diaphragm pumps equipped with a moving diaphragm to generate the unsteady flow in the right direction are designed to deliver the maximum or the required volume flowrate while reducing/suppressing backflow. Operating and manufacturing uncertainties affect the performance of pumps, such asthe micropump this paper is dealing with, and should be taken into consideration during the designloop. This paper presents such a design-optimization by incorporating (a) the cut-cell method for the CFD analysis of the unsteady flow, (b) the non-intrusive polynomial chaos expansion method, supportedby aSmolyaksparse grid, to quantify uncertainties in the performance metrics, (c) a Pareto front seeking evolutionary algorithm with some add-ons to reduce the otherwise excessive CPU cost and (d) an intercalary gradient-based improvement of selected individuals, assisted by the continuous adjoint method.........

Image text recognition is a process of getting text values out of an image. The extracted characters save space and enable editing on the characters. This is also called optical character recognition (OCR). Optical recognition is performed off-line after the writing or printing has been completed, as opposed to on-line recognition where the computer recognizes the characters as they are drawn. Template Matching is a system prototype useful to recognize the character or alphabet by comparing two images of the alphabet. This work focuses on providing high accuracy on offline recognition character using a template matching technique which does not adapt for some writing style. It has been implemented with Java programming language and opencv library. Template matching technique is modified to adapt many writing styles with an unending template creation opportunity and still maintaining all other properties of template matching............

Based on the common assumption that the soil bearing pressure under a spread footing foundation is linearly distributed over the area where the compressive stress is kept between the foundation bottom surface and the subgrade soil, the governing equationsare established for the soil bearing pressure under an octagonal spread foundation with eccentric loads. By choosing an appropriate coordinate system, it is found that the two unknowns in the governing equations can be decoupled into quartic, cubic, and/or quadratic equations which involve only oneof the two unknowns. Therefore, the analytical solutions to this problem are determined, which are essentialfor checking the soil bearing pressure when the engineering design codes migrate from the conventional Allowable Stress Design (ASD) method to the advanced Load Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) method since larger eccentricity ratios occur when factored loads are used.............

High efficiency video coding (HEVC) is the latestcoding standard for ultrahigh definition (UHD) video applications. Face detection is one of the most important tasks for intelligent video surveillance (IVS) system. It is a fact that an accurate face detection facilitates subsequent face recognition and security system. Since most of existing computer vision methods used in IVS systems operate in a pixel domain, this means that IVS need to analyze video content after fully decoding HEVC bitstreams or compressed files. However, the new generation of IVS system will employ UHD, this results in a high computational load for intelligent video analytics in the pixel domain. Therefore, it is difficult to achieve a real-time IVS system...........

Voice signal naturally is the most commonly used effective means of passing information or message for mankind. In the present stage of technological development voice signals are used to carry signal through transmissions channels to various locations of the globe. These voice signals experience interferences in these channels. The interfering components include additive white Gaussian noise, random noise, acoustic noise, electromagnetic noise, powerline noise and high frequency and low frequency noise components. These interferences corrupt the message contents of the voice signal if they are not removed or degraded. Different windows can be used to design a finite impulse response (FIR) filter for removing these noise components from the voice signals. In this paper five different windows, namely; Kaiser, single cosine term adjustable, double cosine term adjustable, HAT and HAS, windows are used individually to design a low pas FIR filter used in removing the high frequency noise components from a voice signal. A comparative analysis of the filters shows that Kaiser Window outperformed the other windows.

In a world that relies progressively on electronic information and online transactions, a large volume of data is transmitted over the internet on a daily bases. Cyber threats and attacks are steadily increasing. There is, however, a major threat posed by Man-in-the-Middle (MITM) attacks in trying to establish an effective and safe communication line. Most time, these threats and attacks from MITM are targeted at the channel of the transaction to intercept and manipulate vital information being transmitted to a legitimate user. More so for private, confidential, and vital information, the need to secure these data on transmission over the Internet is now a necessity and cannot be overstated. Cryptography is the key method of protecting data and information in a computer system. Today's cryptosystems are divided into two categories: symmetric and asymmetric. The difference lies in the keys used in decryption and encryption..............
