This paper presents a conceptual basis for a paradigm shift in looking at how the brain works. This paradigm shift is embodied in the proposal that generating endogenous electromagnetic (EM) fields, observed as EEG "brain waves," is a neuron's primary function rather than being a by-product of its direct, synaptic message function. Thus, the synaptic interconnections between neurons are a facilitating mechanism for the neurons' primary role in creating EM fields. Furthermore, these EM fields function to stimulate the cerebral cortex and maintain a feed-back loop between brain regions. If this is the case, the conventional neuronal model of mental activity needs to be revised. This concept is explored, along with its implications in terms of sensory perceptions, consciousness, memory and related mental functions......... High concentration of urinary oxalate may lead to the formation of calcium oxalate kidney stones. There are many medications and surgical treatments are available for the management of kidney stone disease. But they have their own benefits and drawbacks. Degradation of urinary oxalate by bacteria by using them as probiotics can be a new therapeutic tool for the management of kidney stone disease. Present study focuses on the isolation of oxalate degrading bacteria from various food sources by using ATCC 1352 medium. Identification of isolated bacteria was carried out based on Bergey's Manual of Determinative Bacteriology and molecular techniques. Quantitative determination of oxalate degradation was carried out by using Barber's medium and concentration of oxalate was determined by oxidation of KMnO4 by oxalic acid. One bacterial strain showed 19.2% oxalate degradation. Based on Bergey's Manual............ Keywords - Oxalate, kidney stone, Bacillus subtilis, probiotics. @article{key:article,

Now-a-days, the construction of high-rise building is ever increasing due to the limitation of space in horizontal direction in urban areas. Even the vertical extension can be commonly seen in urban areas of developing countries like Bangladesh. However, Bangladesh is situated at earthquake prone region. Therefore, it is important to consider lateral loads in designing high-rise building emphasized on storey drift. In this present study, a ten-storied RC regular rectangular building has been studied under lateral loads-seismic and wind-using finite element based computer software ETABS (version 9.6) for five different slab systems. Five slab systems are edge supported slab with deep beams, column supported slab with interior shallow beams, flat plate with edge beams and without cantilever portion, flat plate with cantilever portion and without edge beams, and flat plate without cantilever portion and without edge beams. Storey drift for every storey and inter storey drift index have been calculated for lateral loads for all five conditions and compare with allowable drift limitations. The result shows, the building with flat plate without cantilever portion and without edge beams may be vulnerable under lateral loads. The study environment is located south of the small Senegalese coast. It has been distinguished over the past two decades by a strong advance in salt lands. The objective of this article is to characterize the spatial variation of land salinity. The methodological approach is based on the analysis of the electrical conductivity (EC) of 794 soil samples spread over 182.3 ha using the 1/10 diluted extract method and the ordinary kriginggeostatistical method for spatialization salinity of the land. The results obtained show that the salinity of the soils is characterized by a large spatial variation on the horizontal and vertical plane following a decreasing salinity gradient from bare tannes near watercourses to cropland. The salinity is rising. It grows from depth (20-40 cm) to the surface (0-20 cm). We also note an extension of extremely salty soils (bare tannes), with electrical conductivities well above 2,000 μs / cm, to the detriment of very salty and salty soils. In Brazil, the remnants of Pampa biome represent an area of high environmental fragility due to the expansion of the agricultural frontier and to overgrazing, which promotes conditions for the rapid spread and establishment of invasive species such as Eragrostis plana Nees. The area most susceptible to invasion by this species are the areas degraded by overgrazing and intensive agriculture, abandoned crop fields, and roadsides. Considering the problems that arise from species invasion in natural areas, and particularly from Eragrostis plana in the Pampa biome, the objective of this study was to use the GARP (Genetic Algorithm Rule-set Production) species distribution model to map, at the local scale, the probability to invasion by this species using as input variables remotely sensed data, as well as.......... The integration of sedimentary petrography, paleocurrent and heavy mineral analyses of the conglomeritic lithofacies of the Ameki Formation in the northeastern part of the Niger Delta Basin was donein order to determine the provenance, tectonic and paleoclimatic setting. The sandstone has more than 95% quartz and it is quartz arenite.Petrographic analysis shows the preponderance of monocrystalline nonundulose quartz and absence of inclusions suggesting a volcanic igneous source terrain. The absence of feldspar suggests that the detritus was derived under a hot and humid palaeoclimate. The abundance of euhedral zircon and pink euhedral tourmaline suggest that the sediment was derived from an igneous source terrain. However, the paucity of kyanite and sillimanite indicate a minor contribution from a metamorphic source. Analysis of cross-beds data gives a unimodal paleocurrent patterntrending southwest which indicates that the provenance is northeast. The mineral composition of the sand considered in conjunction withpaleocurrent direction points to the northeastern granitic basement complex rocks of the Cameroon Massif.
