In today's world, the use of sensor technology to make portable devices can help patients in detecting or monitoring diseases. One such problem is the onset of foot ulcers in diabetic patients. Diabetes often leads to improper circulation of blood to a person's feet, which results in diabetic foot ulcers. This leads to gangrene formation and loss of sensation in the patient's foot. If ignored, leads to lower leg amputation. The proposed system is a device which is developed and evaluated to identify the patients who are likely to develop diabetic foot ulcers at an early stage. This is accomplished by fixing pressure sensors in five pressure points of the foot. The foot pressure readings are converted into corresponding voltage output by the sensor. These voltage readings are amplified using an amplification unit. The voltage data are read using a data acquisition device. The output of the device decides whether the person has the probability to develop diabetic foot ulcer or not

Knowledge management is much talked about concept in this era but there are some impediments in its management. Though there is much heat regarding knowledge management, there is less light. When some others hear the concepts information and knowledge management, what comes in their minds are computers yet computers are only enablers There is much confusion in information and knowledge management.. Confusion also exists on the differences between information and knowledge management. There are half life, threat to specialist and mobility as impediments in knowledge management

Author Name :: Maryam Khakbaz Varkani || Mohsen Nosrati || Seyed Abbas Shojaossadati
Page Number :: 13-22
Paper Index :: 09.1913/xxxxxxxx

Pure culture of Hyphomicrobium denitrificans DSM 1869 was immobilized on anthracite and utilized for biological denitrification in 50-ml flasks employing methanol and acetic acid as carbon source. The results demonstrate that acetic acid was a suitable carbon source for H. denitrificans to remove high nitrate concentrations. The maximum denitrification rate was 233.1 mg NO3-N/g MLSS.h and the highest NO3-N removal efficiency was obtained when using C/N ratio of 4.0 and acetic acid as the carbon source. C/N ratio can significantly affect denitrification in different operational conditions.................

Welding is a metallurgical process; all aspects of a welding process can be more or less, related to metallurgy of the materials involved in welding,either base metal or electrodes. It is a rapid joining technique extensively used for joining thin assemblies in military and automotive applications. The resistance spot welding process bonds contacting metal surfaces via the heat obtained from resistance to an electrical current flow.Process parameters like welding current, time and pressure are closely controlled to obtain superior weld quality. Welding current is generally considered as a key factor affecting the weld quality......

This work presents the design and the implementation of a floor tile piezoelectric to obtain electric power and to feed a system of low power. To obtain the electric power across the floor tile, it is necessary to know the phenomenon called the piezoelectric effect, which is used as way that produces the electric power to a material ceramic call PZT-4 that operates as a generator, which produces the electric power for the application of mechanical energy to the material, that is to say, on having deformed the material piezoelectric for the mechanical action this one generates electric power

The main purpose of this project is to develop a Solar Watering System capable of performing irrigation or watering task automatically and is powered by Photovoltaic (PV) panels. A moisture sensor in the soil is used to check the need for irrigation in order to operate a pump powered by the PV system and lead acid battery. In addition to the input from moisture sensor, Timer function within the PIC18F4550 was also applied to prevent watering to many times per day. This ensures that the crop or plant in the field will not have growth problems due to overwatering. In order to increase energy harvesting from the sun radiation, sun tracker in the form of single axis was designed.......

An Open and Distance Learning (ODL) institution should use an effective and efficient records management system to maintain quality. ODL has become the most favoured mode of learning worldwide. This has resulted in the generation of a lot of records which need to be managed according to the theories and principles of records management. The purpose of this study therefore, was to assess the applicability of records management theories to ODL institutions in dealing with an increased amount of information resulting from an increased enrolment of students. The study suggests the strategies that can be employed by ODL institutions to safeguard their corporate memory........

Author Name :: Reza Abiri || Iman Kardan ||Reza Nadafi ||Mansour Kabganian
Page Number :: 71-83
Paper Index :: 09.1913/xxxxxxxx

In this paper, a new state-space model is developed for shape memory alloy (SMA) springs which remarkably captures their nonlinear behavior during phase transformation. The validity of the proposed model is verified by multiple open-loop experimental tests. This state-space model is then used to develop a model-based controller which adjusts the force exerted by the spring using actuating voltage in order to achieve the desired values of input force reference. It will be shown that in spite of nonlinearity of the model and hysteresis phenomenon, the perfect tracking is possible when the frequency of the input force reference is low. However, in high-frequency of input force reference, the perfect tracking is not guaranteed.

In ancient times, the Elamites, Chaldeans, Akkadians, and Sumerians mined shallow deposits of asphalt, or bitumen occurring in tar sand for their own use. Mesopotamian bitumen was exported to Egypt where it was employed for various purposes, including the preservation of mummies. Tar sand had many other uses in the ancient world. It was mixed with sand and fibrous materials for use in the construction of watercourses and levees and as mortar for bricks........

Algeria has a limited water resource, irregular and very unevenly distributed. With the exception of fossil water of the Sahara, natural water resources are mainly located in the North of the country. The share taken by the drinking water supply has increased significantly in volume and proportion and therefore the share of the water used for irrigation has dropped. Despite this reduction, the agricultural sector remains the largest consumer of the water. During the last five years -and in order to promote agriculture and sustainable development as well as managingbetter the water of the irrigation- the focus was on the use of saver irrigation systems. The objective of this study is to investigate the development of this type of irrigation at the level of Tlemcen............

Environmental worries have led the necessity to remove organosulfur-containing compounds from shale oil. The Jordanian oil shale have been retorted, to produce shale oil. The total organosulfur content in the produced shale oil was found to be 10.634%. Adsorption technique was tested to find out the effective in removing organosulfur from the produced shale oil to keep up with the environmental regulation if shale oil can be used in the future as an energy alternative. The adsorption technique depend mainly on varying parameters. Among the varying adsorption parameters were, the ratio of zeolite to shale oil, particle size, height of column and flow rate. The total organosulfur reduction by applying adsorption techniques was slightly influenced............
